“Nurses are there when the last breath is taken and nurses are there when the first breath is taken. Although it is more enjoyable to celebrate the birth, it is just as important to comfort in death.” -Christine Bell
"The life of a nurse is meaningful. Nurses experience so many unique events and moments that others may not. The birth of a child is truly memorable; sharing in a parent’s joy is incomparable. The death of someone is also monumental, and making someone comfortable as these enter their final journey is an honor. Nurses can feel that they made a real difference in making their patients comfortable.
Being a nurse has its share of joy and sadness, but when you go home at the end of the day, know that you have made a difference in someone’s life. That kind of feeling is indescribable."
This whole period was an eye-opener and at the same time heart-breaking. Questions that i never thought like: Are there people really dying everyday? In Singapore? Are they saved? In the ED (Emergency department) loads of people are awaiting to see doctor, the queue is endless and overflowing. People came in with the need to resuscitate them. Oh well, that experience was pretty exciting and mind-blowing. My heart was racing because the staff nurses are like leopards. They knew exactly what to do. Cold sweat, frightened and ponder if this person could make it. Loading back to tons of memories which I battled to worship that particular day.
Ooshing of blood, peeping sounds of machines, expression of faces are the daily encounters last of whole week!
To be continued...
